Using the Data Transformation wizard
The Data Transformation script allows you to engineer your data as part of the load process.
The level of engineering that is possible is quite vast, and includes:
- running queries
- creating domains
- exporting
- re-importing to a new table
- aggregating
- decoding
The Data Transformation wizard allows you to use most of the remap functionality that is available in the Engine suite itself. Therefore the load process can provide your users with the exact view of the data they require, not just a view of the data as it existed in its raw state.
Access the Data Transformation Wizard from the Scripts tab.
First select the Data Transformation script on the left hand side of the screen and then either click the Data Transformation button or double-click on the text in the Format area of the screen on the right, (this will only work if you have already added load information).
The example below references a text file called Occupation Decode.txt.
The script is displayed in the Data Transformation script as:
DEcode [test].[person] , Occupation Decode , OCCUPATION , Occupation Decode.txt , 1 , 2
The Data Transformation wizard provides many options for manipulating your data. You can use the Use Database Structure check box and Refresh Structure button to populate the drop-down lists with entries from the database to which you are linked. The available options are described in Data Transformation commands.
Note that you should also provide a mapping for NULL values if you want these to persist when specifying a Decode Remap. Failure to do this will mean that valid data with NULL values will be lost.
| Note: | You will need to load your data before you can use the Data Transformation wizard with some of the functions, otherwise the table and column details will not be available. If you have selected the Use Database Structure check box, ensure you click on the Refresh Database button to add the new data to the drop-down lists. |
